Protective glazing for light curtain

Our customer, a major international name in electronic sensors, was faced with a problem: scratches were forming on the windows of their light sensors. Polycarbonate was used for the windows due to its impact strength, hence their susceptibility to scratching.

We sat down with the customer to explore whether the material was suitable for the application, and whether PMMA could perhaps provide an alternative solution, for example. However, as impact strength was a paramount requirement, we decided to proceed with coated polycarbonate. It goes without saying that light transmission is crucial in this application. With that in mind, we carried out comprehensive light transmission measurements on various settings of our coating line. Based on these measurements, we concluded that light transmission remained sufficiently high and stable for the application in question at all times.

We coated the polycarbonate in ViewTec™ AGR and cut the components to size.
